COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course introduces concepts, theories and verbiage associated with the theater of sociology. The major sociological perspectives argon explored surrounding: cordial control, social interaction, social differentiation, and social institutions. The processes of social change are understood in the context of collective human behavior.

Upon successful completion of Soc 101, students will be fit to
define the sociological imagination and identify how the discipline of sociology is applicable to the study of contemporary society.
identify the steps in the look process and how the scientific method is used in the field of sociology.




differentiate between the major sociological theoretical perspectives - geomorphological functionalism (functionalist), social conflict (conflict) and symbolic interactionism (interactionist).

REQUIRED TEXTBOOK:
Essentials of Sociology, A Down-to-Earth Approach, 9th variance, by James Henslin (ISBN:  0-205-76312). (Note: this is a new edition of the text, and if you have an older edition, it will be your responsibility to realise how the older version is different in regards to the study guides, quizzes, and exams.) You do NOT need to bring your text to class.

Note that on that point is a copy or two of the text on 2 hour reserve at the library. This means that you shag use the book, while remaining in the library, for up to 2 hours at a time.
