Plot:
The introduction of the short story “Am I naughty?” By Alice Walker introduces the reader to the deuce main characters; the protagonist and the cater, good-for-naught. Imagery is often used which is writeritative to the plot of the story, and gives us more of a sense of the setting. The author uses imagery in this case to introduce the protagonist to the historic character blueness when she says, “It was a house of many windows, low, wide, just about floor to ceiling in the living room, which faced the hayfield and it was from bingle of these that I first saw our closest neighbor, a turgid white horse, cropping grass, flipping it’s mane and ambling about.” It is made vindicated that they live in a rural area and the cadence period is unidentified; however we can derive that it is during a period when agriculture is prominent.
The rising action begins when the protagonist encounters Blue and she develops a relationship and understanding of the horse. She makes a connection with Blue and uses personification to describe the human qualities that the horse possesses. Alice Walker writes, “Blue was lonely. Blue was horribly lonely and bored.” The protagonist nurtures the horse by feeding him apples and closely examines him as time progresses.
The protagonist in the short story states, “It was quite wonderful to pick up a few apples, or collect those that had fallen to the end overnight, and patiently hold them, one by one, up to his large toothy mouth.”
The turning point of the story occurs when another horse gallops into Blue’s life and was placed to live in the same five acres of land. The naked as a jaybird horse was depict to be brown and although Blue was frightened at first, they curtly become friends. The bank clerk (protagonist) begins to take notice of a new look in Blue’s eyes – one of independence and self-possession rather then loneliness and alienation.
