The struggle for Khadra as a Muslim American began early in her life. While in George Rogers Clark High give instruction she was faced with intense bullying from the other American students who practically would call her names. Khadra and other Muslim American girls as excessively got teased about their jilbabs and head scarves often being called sit heads. One instance when Khadra was walking through the halls in her juicy school she attains pushed by an American boy named Brent Lott (Kahf 123). Him and his booster unit Curtis Stephenson began to call her names and proceeded to taking off her head jack off causing it to rip (Kahf 124). In response to this Khadra begins her internal struggle:
Mama was going to freak out, Khadra knew. Where is your scarf? Why did you top it off?
Her father would say gravely, But why were you talk of the town to a boy anyway? They didnt get it, they didnt get anything. She slid to the floor, her tail against the cinder blocks. After her breathing got back to normal, she shoved her stuff into her locker and kicked it shut, wiping her face with the back of her hand. She would not ring in this hateful school. She never should have let them get to her. Hated herself for that (Kahf 125).
