The problem is that prior to this, on that point is no record of any diamond exported out of sierra Leone. Which begs the question; where did these diamonds go? The simple answer is: war. To be much specific, rebels within Africa have harnessed this powerful gem and stolen its shine and sheen to fund their wars so that the streets can continue to ladder with blood.

The illegal diamond trade in Africa has really give way one of the great debates within the international forum as it severely impacts both economic and social development for Africa. Economically, countries in Africa are losing out on billions of rands a year imputable to the fact that diamonds are traded for arms and ammunition instead of crucial resources. 40% of Namibias exports comprise of diamonds, and in Sierra Leone 90% of exports come from Diamonds and the mining sector.
