1. INTRODUCTION

In Zimbabwean manufacturing sector the production techniques which are employ tend to be capital intensive and do not permit significant substitution between capital and labour.
However it is very necessary and crucial to have evidence on sight of substitution and productivity of factors to help decide on which factors to engage intensively. Through this study estimates of efficiency of production and returns to scale of AVM AFRICA will be obtained.
As a key sector for stinting development the manufacturing sector has been highly regulated and protected from 1961 up until the 1990,s when the market was liberalized and opened to imports and any other willing producer. though the sector was liberalized AVM AFRICA has enjoyed some degree of benefit and protection from the political sympathies as government has pursued policies to protect and promote growth and ensure survival of firms in the manufacturing sector.
